First and foremost, dress for comfort - jeans, shorts, skirt, comfortable shirt, etc.  Leather soled or smooth soled shoes or boots are best to dance in.  Regular tennis shoes will stick to the floor thus not allowing you to pivot as easily during the dance moves.  Many of us wear dance sneakers in the summer with shorts, capris, or skirts.  You can find them at local Lebo's or I have found good prices on Amazon.  Many with free shipping and no tax for the time being.  The shoes are in European sizes so you have to size up.  Below are  links to some we have personally purchased which we like:

Also, the shoes are unisex even though it mention's men's or women's.  Any of these styles can be worn by both with the exception of the tan jazz shoe or the pink web Dansneaker.


I wear a ladies 7.5 - 8 in street shoes and purchased this shoe in an 8.5 which is a good fit - description says men should go 2 sizes up:
